The Ogegere Community Needs Assessment was undertaken to better understand the key challenges, needs and priorities of residents and to provide evidence that can guide appropriate community development and intervention efforts.

The assessment focused on engaging directly with community members to understand their lived experiences and identify gaps in essential services, livelihoods, environmental conditions, infrastructure and social well-being. Rather than relying solely on external assumptions about the community, the process prioritised the voices and experiences of residents.

Key Areas Assessed

The assessment explored:

• Water, sanitation and hygiene, including access to safe and reliable water.
• Healthcare, including availability, accessibility and affordability of basic health services.
• Education, including access to schools and challenges affecting children and young people.
• Livelihoods and economic opportunities, particularly the challenges faced by households in sustaining their income.
• Environmental challenges, including pollution, waste management, flooding and other environmental risks where applicable.
• Basic infrastructure, including roads, electricity, housing and other community facilities.
• Women and youth, with attention to their specific needs, participation and opportunities.
• Community priorities, identifying issues residents consider most urgent and areas where external support could have the greatest impact.

Approach

The assessment used a participatory approach, allowing residents to actively contribute to the identification and prioritisation of community needs. Discussions with community members and relevant local stakeholders provided an opportunity to understand both immediate challenges and longer-term development concerns.

The findings from the assessment were intended to serve as a basis for evidence-driven programming, advocacy, resource mobilisation and engagement with government and development partners.

Ultimately, the Ogegere Community Needs Assessment was about listening to the community first—understanding its realities, identifying its priorities and ensuring that future interventions respond to what the people themselves say they need, rather than imposing solutions from outside.
